So glad it’s not just me. I’ve been doing it for over 5 years now and it doesn’t get easier.

And of course, the pain’s bestie—the medical system—shows up to the party like, ‘Are you sure you need pain meds? Have you tried yoga, hydration, or just… not being in pain?’ Thanks, David, hadn’t thought of that.

I will name my first born child El if they do that (not a bad thing - pretty - but I’m serious). No way. Not happening. Cannot be that out of touch. I will be ropable.

It’s confusing - these people have experience w/ NDIS. Surely they know it needs reform, but are opposed to any reform proposed & don’t have their own plans. So the debate boils down to complex solutions (that may not be perfect) being released and a vocal group always just saying no outright.

Can I just observe that this has been a really insightful and interesting exchange of thoughts rather than a fight and I’ve appreciated the way you’ve gone about it. Yay for BlueSky!

And they’re remaining an option if you can show they benefit you. I think there is space here to find a compromise that works if it is designed by PwD.

I did reply but it disappeared. In principle, don’t you think PwD should only use their cb on therapies that benefit their capacity? I fear if we don’t do a better job proving value for money we are going to lose public trust & support for the scheme & then future govts really cut funds.

But as a principle, don’t you think PwD should only be able to use their core funds on therapies that benefit their capacity? As a govt. program we can’t ask it to fund more. There has to be a reasonable line. It’s not cut, you just need to show benefit. How it is done should be co-designed.

When I go to a planning meeting & want a certain amount of physio/EP, I’ve got to have evidence it will functionally benefit me & the level of funding is needed. Is that not what NDIA is now requiring of music/art therapies? Isn’t it bringing consistency? I’m genuinely interested how it’s different.
November 27, 2024 at 7:45 AM
If it’s being used to improve functional capacity like a physio & OT, sure. But isn’t that why the NDIA is requiring proof it has a therapeutic benefit (exactly like they do with physio & OT)? If it does, you can keep charging $194, but if it is a community activity that’s when the payment drops?

Horrifying.
