The whole world of the far-right is like this though? Its intrinsic to their politics and worldview

True, but loss of FoM + Erasmus was still a meaningful loss for a lot of Brits, and restoring it (or a version for now) feels like a progressive win. Interesting that the argument about our closer cultural ties with Europe felt like a left wing argument during the Brexit years & a right wing one now

Isn't part of the difference that the YMS + Erasmus are reciprocal?

So either Londoners would be taxed more and it goes directly to City Hall, or London stops subsidising the rest of the country and every other region gets a cut in public spending? Two quirky offers to the electorate, that's for sure

Wait, so he wants to redistribute *less* money from London to the rest of the country? What?

Clearly, she should resign

Oh yeah, the whole thing is so counter-intuitive when you actually know any MPs. They do so much more for constituents than they used to, and to the detriment of other things they could be doing. It's what people want of them though. Not sure what the answer is 🤷‍♀️

I agree. So much pressure to be endlessly busy, at every community event, advocating for constituents and solving their problems. This isn't *bad* (and it would be terrible if MPs didn't do any of it) but it doesn't leave much time/bandwidth for serious, long-term or even philosophical thinking

True, but I certainly pay close attention to the figure arriving in my bank account on the same day each month and always notice if it's lower/higher... in every job I've had I could tell you what that number has been!
November 21, 2025 at 4:07 PM
That's mad! If you're on a monthly salary (appreciate not everyone is), surely you can tell if your income tax has gone up - or not?
November 21, 2025 at 3:39 PM
Agreed with all of this. I can't believe anyone is still on Twitter. Morally indefensible and massively destructive to one's sanity and wellbeing as well. Why would I expose myself to far right propaganda?
November 21, 2025 at 10:44 AM
100%. Understanding politics (ie. being a nerd) is completely different from being good at actually doing it
November 6, 2025 at 12:58 PM
I'm amazed he's not more worried about raising people's hopes to this extent with such little detail on how any of this is achievable. Doesn't he see that just fuels even more disillusionment - or does he not care?

Attention seeking

If anything they argued the opposite - that it was discrimatory for eg. a German to have more rights to live in the UK than eg. an Indian. Now they're saying the complete opposite. Total intellectual incoherence
October 23, 2025 at 1:34 PM
But during the Brexit years, they seemed to completely reject the idea of any kind of general European identity that Brits belonged to, with its implicit argument that stronger ties, and higher levels of inward and outward migration, to and from EU made more sense for UK than from places elsewhere.

Genuine question - do you think the Greens can win a majority, and if not, which parties would you go into coalition with?

The only novel I finished, then started again straight away so I could read through twice. It's utterly brilliant, and so hard to understand why everything else isn't.

This is absolutely superlative - laughed out loud several times (in public)

I am a councillor and I endorse this message

I think this is probably too difficult an argument to discuss in such general terms - I appreciate deciding how to vote at next election could be difficult and painful for a lot of people. Sometimes voting is about preventing something worse unfortunately but hopefully not always
