My theory (and I'm sure I'm not alone) is that in return for the financing (and hacking?) provided by Elon, Trump promised to try and snag Greenland for him (for rare earth minerals).
He lies about everything, so he doesn't really plan on warring for it, but has to make a show of it for elon.
