Since when does a sitting president call meetings with mayors-elect like this? I don't remember any president being at all interested in mayoral elections until this one.

These people almost get it. Seriously. They're millimeters from it. They just won't get there because they victim-blame and excuse bigotry.

Being there for your kid's birth (if you're not, y'know, deployed with the military, incapacitated, stuck in an airport, or dead) is expected of you. (Even more so if you're actually the one giving birth.) But you're not expected to be on a clock tower avoiding the cops. Infinitely more interesting.
