One of my favourite annual rituals is coming up with a shortlist of my favourite horrors to watch for Halloween weekend (no YOU’RE sad, shut up) and I think the way it works is that if you’ve seen all these you get all the money in my will*

*hope you like copper coins

Writing my author bio for book 2….

One day I will be able to write good stuff about myself without simultaneously mocking myself but that is not today or the next fifty years

I have a sore little finger from a combination of recent racket sports and typing all day so I splinted it with packing tape and I shall now wait for all the comments and DMs telling me what a genius I am

This headline brought to you by the satire department of late-stage capitalism

Reading this book about malevolent water as Manchester is wracked with heavy rainshowers was a bold choice by me and I’m more unsettled than a mouse who lives above a cat cafe

And finally we have Darkness Unleashed by @belladunn.bsky.social, Book 2 of the Eileerean Saga, out 27 Nov, a Gaelic-inspired matriarchal fantasy world of court politics & magic & tragedy & romance & great worldbuilding

Okay that's it, my wine's run out now. Tell me who I missed, loads obviously.

I'm including The Broken Sword by @llmacrae.bsky.social , the last entry in The Dragon Spirits, even though it's just come out because why not, you can't stop me.

Everyone who's read this series has minor cardiac events of joy when describing this (I have begun book 1) so I'd probably get on it

Circe's Coven, the final installment of @philspeculates.bsky.social's dark noir fantasy trilogy The British Bureau for the Arcane, arrives October 3

(not the final cover obviously, or maybe you just don't have the right clearance)

At some point before year's end we can expect Copper Skin, Oaken Lungs by @adamcbassett.com, a post-apocalyptic dark fantasy. I'm editing this atm and it's got a little bit Silo, little bit The Passage, little bit Annihilation (my comps not his!). It's really great.
August 30, 2025 at 6:02 PM
In just one week week (Sep 5) we have To Touch a Silent Fury, the epic dark romantic political fantasy lots of things frankly by @rasandpiper.bsky.social. It's the first in the Bride of Eavenfold duology and it's going to knock your socks off, so have another pair in your pocket like a pro.

20 November sees Tides of Torment by @scrimscribes.bsky.social, the conclusion to the trilogy that no one has been able to stop me talking about (yet) in the last couple of years, the flintlock-folkore-Scottish-inspired-dark-fantasy Sea of Souls Saga. There will be torment, there will be tears.
August 30, 2025 at 6:02 PM
November 18 sees @patricksamphire.bsky.social return to his mage-for-hire character and his witty noirish fantasy world with the Mennik Thorn prequel novella The Dead Man
We're promised theft, murder and blackmail, and Patrick's a trustworthy guy (I think) so I believe him.

Trying to enjoy the bank holiday but I can’t stop thinking about whether anyone has bought the 2023 Report on Electronic Soap Dispensers at 800 quid
August 25, 2025 at 4:57 PM
My dead plants are horrible but this collection edited by @manylittlewords.bsky.social is amazing. It’s terrifying, thought provoking, and intense, like a documentary in a cave at midnight

Review to come soon, gross picture for now

Good news everyone, found a way to stop gen AI

Just show all your Scottish friends that Google AI thinks Scotland is in England and say sayonara to those tech bros

That’s great Bluesky but can you tell that to my family and my exes

Can’t get over the INCREDIBLE chonky French version of my book, 100 pages more than US, with some crazy spredges

Knew I should have kept up my high school French, sacré bleu

Who wants to teach a moron

One of my favourites of the many stupid epigraphs I have in Book 2

Works in real life as well as werewolf murder mysteries

This sale finishes at midnight tonight, mountain time.* Still time to do a deal with the [surprisingly reasonable] devil

*Don’t ask

I've been wanting to read this book ever since @shortwavebooks.bsky.social announced it as the concept - 10 go camping, but there's 11, but everyone remembers everyone else - is one of the best I've ever heard. Now I'm about to start it & I'm more excited than a cat at a laser pen convention

Happy release day to When the Wolf Comes Home by @natcassidy.bsky.social, out today!

Like half the horror internet today I got a bit carried away.

It’s been so great seeing this 10/10 tome blow up.

My Grimdark Magazine review from last month in comment, as if you don’t already know about this

Some kind words here from SFF author Bryan Wilson from the acknowledgments page of his awesome new epic.

I'm not even that angry that my book's been scraped by Meta for their GenAI sithlord stuff because it's physiologically impossible for me to get any angrier about the tech bro scum; you'd have to invent a new system to trigger the brain to make you angrier & outside of Hulk tech that's not possible
