Thanks to the efforts and research of ECSU alumnus Eddie Davis, our own Dr. Glen Bowman, ECSU Archivist Paige Hendrickson, and Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management Karen Lucas, the efforts of these exceptional Vikings have now been recognized.

Since 1962, the non-transfer student with the highest GPA has been recognized at ECSU's commencement ceremonies as the Bearer of the Mace. Before 1972, only male students were recognized as Bearers of the Mace.
