"ETH researchers estimate the cost of removing 1 tonne of CO2 from the air in the year 2050 to be between 230 and 540 US dollars. This is twice as high as previous estimates"
"The cost of removing large quantities of CO2 from the air will fall in the medium term, but not as much as previously hoped.

This is the conclusion reached by @ethz.ch researchers on the basis of new calculations. Efforts to reduce carbon emissions should therefore continue at pace"

This is near 100% confirmation that Tesla won't get a permit to roll out FSD Supervised in Europe.

My hunch is that the Regulator needs Tesla's FSD data, which Tesla has refused to submit even to regulators in California since 2014.

I wonder what Tesla has to hide?

It should be obvious by now that we cannot make the future of human civilisation dependent on whether the fossil fuel vendors vote for ending fossil fuel use.
Rather, it is up to those who buy fossil fuels to end their lethal addiction fast, before it is too late.

This is a hugely important story. I wrote about its consequences already in "Road to Unfreedom" and we know much more now. If we want to be a democracy we have to create structures of factuality rather than selling our future to the loudest yeller in another country.
Although the scale of this is still to be assessed, this is the inevitable outcome of the monetization of the algorithm. Rage-bait becomes a personal revenue model. Nothing about this should be a surprise.
NEWS: I spent the past 24 hours going through major MAGA accounts on Twitter, and a bombshell development has become clear: most of the right-wing ecosphere is being fed propaganda from foreign actors.

We live in an age where there's a glut of information and scarcity of attention, mediated through platforms that prioritise engagement over accuracy, and emotion captures attention more readily than reason.
This chart (which applies even more to social media than it did to TV) lives in my head rent free.

Social media enveloping traditional media means everything and everyone is now competing in the entertainment market. Boring stuff like policy that affects millions of lives doesn’t stand a chance.

Many people think about cold in Northern Europe if the Atlantic Ocean current system #AMOC fails. But that wouldn’t be the only problem for Europe by far.
This new study shows that severe drought is another one. 🌊
📢 New paper on the impacts of AMOC collapse on European hydroclimate. 🌊

We find an AMOC collapse would exacerbate drought conditions across Europe, linked to reduced precipitation. In combination with climate change droughts are expected to become more frequent and severe.

Abstract. The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) is expected to weaken or even collapse under anthropogenic climate change. Given the importance of the AMOC in the present-day climate,...

It further shows a similar sea-level rise pattern after #AMOC shutdown as we found in Levermann et al. 2005, with the dynamic rise extending down into the South Atlantic. (That would be added to any global rise caused by climate warming.) 🧵
