My paper was proved wrong. After a sleepless night, here’s what I did next:
- Don’t take it (too) personally
- All in for open and reproducible science
- Science works in increments
- Science is a human endeavour

5 calls makes it very easy to call your representative on whatever issue you have an opinion about. They even have starter scripts that you can use. Remember, one call=one issue. Don't be complacent, this DOES MATTER.

Kid 1 heard that if you feed crows they will eventually start bringing you gifts. She’s been doing that for a bit, and it finally happened.

Getting closer to submitting the first draft of my dissertation. These books were invaluable to the process.

I’d love to see what books were most important to your professional development.

A hill I will probably die on, model selection should only be used if the goal is prediction. I will admit though, I do use Baye's Factor when I have two mechanistically different models that use the same parameters.
I like this paper too, but (horn-tooting alert) alternatively, consider not doing model selection at all? doi.org/10.3390/e260... (FWIW I do feel a bit bad about publishing in an MDPI special issue [!!] - long story, I agreed to do it and then felt uncomfortable backing out - wouldn't do it again)
Multimodel Approaches Are Not the Best Way to Understand Multifactorial Systems
Information-theoretic (IT) and multi-model averaging (MMA) statistical approaches are widely used but suboptimal tools for pursuing a multifactorial approach (also known as the method of multiple work...

1/7 Sexual antagonism arises when males and females face different selection pressures for a trait influenced by shared genes. This is thought to drive balancing selection and maintain genetic polymorphism. We challenge this view in our recent paper :

The maintenance of genetic polymorphism underlying sexually antagonistic traits
Abstract. Selection often favors different trait values in males and females, leading to genetic conflicts between the sexes when traits have a shared gene

At the risk of losing all credibility as a scientist, I’m extremely sympathetic to epistemological anarchism.
Paul Feyerabend was born OTD in 1924.

Knowledge is not a body of consistent theories converging on truth. It is “an ever increasing ocean of mutually incompatible … alternatives, each single theory, each fairy tale, each myth … forcing the others into greater articulation.”

The mass resignation is the 20th such episode since early 2023, according to our records.

Why we (usually) don't have to worry about multiple comparisons
Applied researchers often find themselves making statistical inferences in settings that would seem to require multiple comparisons adjustments. We challenge the Type I error paradigm that underlies t...

Very cool (mathy) paper. I hope this gets accepted wherever they sent it to. I want to see the appendix.
