This is page 1066 of the classic sprite comic, 8-Bit Theater, which is a comedy that very loosely follows the story of the original Final Fantasy. In it, King Steve (the wildly incompetent king of Corneria) asks his long-suffering assistant, Left Hand Man Gary, for a report on the state of his "invincible" kingdom. Gary then informs him that his two senseless wars (which he must restate as a "double pre-emptive super kickass war" for King Steve's benefit) are going poorly ("To characterize it as a spectacular failure doesn't begin to characterize it"), but King Steve willfully misinterprets this as a report of success. Giving up on explaining, Gary continues, saying that the military disaster could be weathered (typoed as "wheather") were they not experiencing peak mana (implying its rate of acquisition can no longer increase, a la peak oil). Steve flippantly replies they can just drill for more. Gary clarifies that the exorbitant energy cost of doing so, coupled with that fact that you can't get mana that way, is the problem's primary contributor. King Steve concludes by saying that's all the more reason to keep drilling until it does work. In the final panel, elsewhere, the character of Fighter provides an unrelated punchline connected to the ongoing main plot of the comic, and explaining the context for it is beyond the scope of this alt text.

A pair of panels from the concluded webcomic, It Hurts!!!, a full description of which would not fit into an alt text but it manages to mix serious existentialism with dumb humor and it's secretly the best webcomic you've never heard of (fair warning, some early pages use the F slur to set up a later punchline about how shitty it is to do so, after which they're never used again, which is admittedly a little problematic and I'm not gonna tell anyone how to feel about that, but I'd say that despite having the tone of early-2000s "edgy" comedy webcomics, the writing actually avoids the usual pitfalls one expects from such works but I digress). The protagonist, Pasqualo Trianglini, is doing a JoJo Pose while insisting an antisocial hermit hand over his stockpile of black turtlenecks, saying, "If you don't hand them over... I will take them from you." clearly trying to channel Jotaro Kujo like a big dork. The hermit addresses Pasqualo's best friend, Allison, "Allison, what the FUCK am I looking at?", to which she replies, "An individual whose concept of 'cool' has been heavily skewed and warped due to an over-exposure to niche media that remains niche for a good reason. If you don't understand this, you're better off as a person." Pasqualo, still holding the pose, but now seen in profile (an angle from which the pose looks extremely stupid), is making an exaggeratedly enraged face at this sick burn. How does one label that which the sighted could not themselves comprehend? Words tell but part of the tale. This panel, from Superman, Volume 1, Issue 182, features an English street performer, Clive Duncan, in his stage persona of "The Super-Cool Cat", where he dresses like Superman but also has fake paw gloves, tail, and suction cup shoes for performing at odd angles. He is making his first big public appearance at a town fair, and he is atop a fence with his mandolin, singing "Meeow-ww! Meow-ww! Super-Duper, Party-Pooper! Triple-Scooper, Poopy-Dooper! Meow-ww-wwww!!" as the crowd throws tin cans at him like a real yowling cat, and an off-panel observer states this obvious fact. Except it's not actually Clive Duncan, as he was dosed with "knockout gas" by some ex-cons looking to steal his chance at stardom, so Superman, currently living as a London radio DJ (he left Metropolis to hide the fact that while Clark Kent was supposedly blinded, he's Superman and obviously was not), has taken his place, and is actually using his vacuum breath to attract the cans. These are the kinds of stories forced into being by the Comics Code Authority. Aren't you glad you checked this alt text?

The other day, I did a list of #ttrpg recommendations, but I left one particular title out, because I felt it deserved its own thread. It's the most brilliant indie RPG to hit the scene in years, and everyone should be talking about it.

Number 77: The Seven Sins, a card from the Yu-Gi-Oh card game that's a mechanical-looking spider. It's a Rank 12 DARK Fiend-type XYZ Monster with 4000 attack and 3000 defense, requiring 2 level 12 monsters to make, but can also be XYZ summoned atop a Rank 10 or 11 XYZ monster instead, but its effect can't be activated that turn if summoned that way. Its main effect is a soft once-per-turn and detaches two materials to banish as many special summoned monsters the opponent controls as possible and attach one of them as material, also if Seven Sins would be destroyed by battle or card effect, you can detach a material instead.
