Feb. 5: Picking a poet from your English major past and reading a bunch of their poems in an effort to re-engage that part of your heart and mind. Recently it was John Donne, who was a visionary, a rebel, a rake and a spiritual warrior.

Feb. 3: I watched Emilia Perez so you don't have to. Hoo boy. First, the good: Zoe Saldana is a very good actress and is the best part of the film. Without her, I can't even imagine this movie succeeding in any way at all. It also looks very pretty sometimes.

Feb. 2, 2025: The needle drop into The Who's Eminence Front at the very end of S2E3 of Severance. No other spoilers. But it was thrilling. I'll never hear the song the same way again. The show is so goddamn good, you guys. Also Gwendoline Christie needs to be in more things.

Feb. 2, 2025: It's official. Star Trek: Section 31 is the worst Star Trek movie of all time. Even worse than Nemesis and Into Darkness. Can't even be saved by Michelle Yeoh. Would fit better on the Sci-Fi Channel in 2005. I couldn't even finish it. And I sat through Picard S2.

Jan. 31: Roy Wood Jr's Hulu special, "Lonely Flowers." One of the best standup specials of the past few years. Hilarious, of course, but with an undercurrent of palpable melancholy. I've been quoting the bit about security questions for weeks now. As a fellow person in their 40s, it resonates.

Jan. 30: The Pitt on Max. Best medical TV drama since ER. The framework of 24; the grit of The Wire; none of the soap opera BS of other hospital shows. It seems like an earnest attempt to show what it's like in emergency rooms in this country, while also slowly building strong characters. Approved!

Hello. I've been parked here for a minute but haven't posted anything. I left that other microblogging site years ago despite enjoying it back in its halcyon early days. I think this place might be OK?
