American by choice, European/Turkish at heart. Collector of random musings on art, books, politics and business—often interrupted by adorable dog content. Nostalgic for cobblestone streets and cafe culture, but the sea is my true refuge.
It is fair to say that the alliance between the LGB community and transgender activists has not been beneficial. Let’s hope that the progress made over the past 40+ years is not undone due to the uncompromising stance of some transgender activists, as it is facing significant pushback.

In an effort to detox my brain from the circus of politics, I turned to the genius of Billy Wilder. Watching Double Indemnity and Sunset Boulevard is never a bad idea. If you haven’t seen these masterpieces, stop whatever you’re doing and fix that oversight ASAP.

Elon Musk did the Nazi salute at Trump’s inauguration. Twice.

Welcome to full-blown fascism.

Good job, MAGA dumbfucks.

Aren’t inaugurations contradicting the Constitution which was heavily influenced by the Enlightenment philosophers? How about the separation of church & state? Herr we are, watching religious figures in prominent roles more akin to the coronation of a monarch than the swearing-in of a US president.

The great Maureen Dowd says:

As Biden, baked in Washington tradition, dutifully follows the script on Monday, he should ponder what his legacy will truly be: resurrecting Trump.

Don't you think today would be a great day to ban members of Congress and their families from trading stocks?

I do.
Members of Congress again outperformed the stock market, report shows
"When Congress members consistently outperform benchmarks like the S&P 500, it raises serious questions about fairness."

I saw somewhere that it has been 9 years since David Bowie is gone. Besides his distinct music, may I say that he taught us reinvention is survival, vulnerability is strength, and art is a language that speaks long after we're gone.

Post-surgery, I lounge in bed like a tragic poet, embracing a sugar intake that would make Willy Wonka envious and my Apple Watch mourns a 20-step week. A bright spot? Montaigne’s How to Live, a guide to humanity’s quirks—proof that someone centuries ago already knew we’re all just winging it.

My son, who lives in Santa Monica, sent me this video, taken by his friend while they were evacuating. He tells me it’s impossible to put into words the sheer scale of the destruction. Glued to our phones, we’ve been overwhelmed with worry, as my son also moved to a hotel in a safer area.

Bezos is paying the Trumps $40 million (not a typo) to make a documentary about Melania that no one asked for or wants, and is certain to obscure any interesting fact—like her initial immigration status, whether her marriage is a sham, all Trump’s affairs—a viewer might want.

Seems like... Bribery?
