The Slate Political Gabfest crew are some of the smartest sounding dumb people I've ever listened to. just totally sophomoric to the point of being morally compromised centrist. this weeks episode was particularly galling each segment more jaw droppingly stupid and vapid than the last.

The CW is such a godsend of a network. They're the only people doing TV right.

Firing and demoralizing feminized jobs as enemies of the state while brazenly bribing men with violent jobs that almost instantly puts them into the middle of middle class is very basic gendered warfare. Fulfilling the manosphere’s promise.
It is insane to me that the government can find money to pay ICE agents increasingly larger sums of money, yet teachers have to buy their own pencils.

something about this season is striking me as very low stakes. Maybe it's just over produced but i don't believe any of the couples and nobody seems to be playing with their heart or even their ego that much. they don't even seem horny outside of the challenges very checked out group. #loveislandusa

When the US ruling class says that something poses a threat to the "American way of life", what they actually mean is it poses a threat to the interests of US capital accumulation.

the obsession with "looting" as if oil execs/politicians havent looted our planet & landlords arent about to loot what remains of LA is a level of stupidity that's unsalvageable... there's no saving your rotted brain. congrats on riding this hard for a system thats trying to kill you
As people around the Palisades and Eaton fires whose houses survived the blaze wait to return home, many dread a secondary threat: looting. Officials announced 22 arrests in the two evacuation zones as of Saturday morning, most of them for burglary or looting, and enacted a curfew.
Amid Evacuations for the L.A. Fires, Fears of Looting Take Hold
Residents barred from returning to their neighborhoods face a secondary threat, and the city, with painful collective memories of looting, is on guard.

per usual with the NYT, the horrors people are witnessing on their TLs and TV screens are stripped of all politics and human agency. Bad things simply happen and human interest stories follow. No one in power in the US is responsible for anything really

“They create no value whatsoever” is the take home point. Private health insurance has the dubious distinction of being both astronomically cruel AND providing zero social value. Ask someone in the industry what their value is vs govt-run system and they’ll babble on about “efficacies” or some such
If you, or a family member, are seriously ill, you are stressed and exhausted. This is the point where America, unlike most other countries asks you to also be your own health care administrator. People intuitively regard this as unfair and enraging.

The Ultimatum is truly the Olympics of therapy speak or not even its more like HR approved work space confrontation speak. it's like they're all speaking at a company retreat and its their turn to say how what they've learned relates back to the company core values
