No one wants free lunch. Most in the US are already paying huge amounts just for the privilege of being able to make an appointment with a doc....and then have to pay additional on top of that. And then pay income tax as well along with state taxes. Insurance companies are getting free lunch.

"they switched ages ago, we can't now" isn't a good faith argument. Before ACA, insurance cos could just straight up deny any coverage because of "pre-existing conditions" - cancer, diabetes, etc. And people just put up with it. Obama showed us a new dream, ACA started the shift, it can continue.

Yes! I say this all the time...we pay for Insurance which is just the right to then pay again for care. That is not a health care system!

Emergency rooms treat emergencies. If a person has a mole that they want checked out, the ER doesn't treat them. If someone thinks maybe their kid has asthma but the child isn't presenting with a severe asthma attack, the ER won't diagnose them. So, no, it's not universal in any sense of the word.

The NHS offers Universal Care. Nothing in the US offers Universal Care. Doctors can refuse to treat people who have Medicaid including children covered through CHIP. Universal Care means it's universal, it's offered to everyone. There is nothing like it in the USA.
