I'm not entirely sure what "cinema" means in this context, but I think this is pessimistic and somewhat akin to saying that we need big corporations to produce "good" media. i'm not here to tell you what you like, but i think you'll find some good stuff that doesn't come from these companies...

i kinda get this. ghibli and dragon ball would have to be the exception to this stigma, but americans do still have a weeb alarm for someone into something more obscure. i don’t like how ghibli is the exception to this, however, because some of their narratives are distinctly japanese.

i think there are totally still people who live in a bubble of american animation (e.g., me). i would consider entry level anime to be hero’s journey stuff while the more adept anime enthusiasts might be ready for narratives that are less universal across different cultures.
