I learned in college that people can become college professors and also lack the skill of communicating through email.
(Just because you were thinking one thing doesn't mean you actually conveyed that information in your email, sir!)

It appears to be the traditional New Yorker caricature Eustace Tilley, having just gotten home from a foxhunt, he has on heavy duty boots that he needs his maid's help removing, because he is a fancy man.

My nephews had to take a five-year break from Bob's Burgers after they watched the dissected pig seishin dobutsu Halloween ep. But, today we had a whole conversation about the Riverbrook Lake Farms heritage turkey and how silly they were for almost throwing it away without trying it first!

This is a local obituary from 2023 that I think of frequently:

I was farsighted all through school, but I didn't have prescription glasses, because no one told me I needed glasses. (I could see the whiteboard, but I couldn't read a newspaper article without frequent breaks.) I had to receive a thorough exam before being diagnosed (just like with ADHD!).

I think the Q Mixers ginger beer is good for the holidays! It is very surprisingly spicy, so it's good for sipping and as complement to other things (apple cider, watermelon, Zevia black cherry soda). This year, I'm also bringing a strawberry Italian soda to Thanksgiving!

He didn't want to believe anything serious happened and if anything did happen, then it was the parents' fault for not stopping it. Obviously, he never watched the documentary and just refused to read about or hear about the specific allegations.

I remember trying to talk to a friend about the HBO documentary when it came out and he could not tolerate the conversation for more than 90 seconds. His immediate response was, "Well really, what was wrong with the parents?"

Ruth Bader Ginsburg's career at the ACLU started 50 years ago with court cases against gender-based laws that discriminated against men! (Men couldn't collect social security as a widower, men couldn't be deemed "caregivers" legally, etc.)

My personal conspiracy theory is that his mom used to know Denzel Washington, therefore Mamdani must have gotten lessons in how to be cool from Denzel Washington.

Did you know the & is actually the letters "Et," for the Latin word "et," which means "and?"

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the earliest Frankenstein I saw was the Wishbone adaptation on PBS, which I think also included the polar exploration part, oddly.

Guillermo del Toro usually lets ladies do a lot more stuff in his movies! And Mia Goth usually acts a lot more, too. In conclusion, there must be some secret second movie where she does more acting than this one. Also, last we saw she was in a cave! Maybe she gets frozen in the cave?
November 14, 2025 at 4:21 AM
I've convinced myself there's a secret sequel in the works where she comes back as the Bride of Frankenstein. (If it never comes out, I'll just continue to believe it's in a vault somewhere.) Why get Mia Goth then *not* have her be a Frankenstein?! Seems pretty weird to me...

Also like "liberal arts" just means a balance of all the academic disciplines! It doesn't mean "liberal politics." If someone studied History at Liberty or Bob Jones or Notre Dame, that person has a liberal arts degree! Also the standard high school education in the US is a "liberal arts" education.

I feel like these complaints never come with an alternative vision for a humanities education that is neither "leftist dogma" nor rightwing dogma. Like, just having students read "marginalized voices" at all makes it leftist dogma?

This just in:
Cousin Stumpy was nobody's blood cousin and in fact, his name may not have been "Stumpy" after all, sources say.

The Democratic party should stop emphasizing "democracy"?

I usually don't like Lay's, because they either have too much salt or too much of some other thing that burns my tongue. I actually *do* want them to change the flavors if it means their chips stop burning!

(Also I'm suspicious that the 42% is like, all kids under 10, or something...)

It's a museum of an old drug store with lots of old medicine bottles and labels and things in Virginia!

I was in a medical history museum today and someone recommended your books! Then I just saw this post and realized I already follow you!

The Supreme Court might just have a schism over this.

I remember a college professor emphasizing that illnesses would often spread inland weeks or months before a military invasion. So, indigenous communities would experience an epidemic of an unknown illness, then encounter the invaders immediately after. Just chaos all around.
