This is a local obituary from 2023 that I think of frequently:

Did you know the & is actually the letters "Et," for the Latin word "et," which means "and?"

I feel like Junie and Phoebe could be identical cousins! My mom also calls her "the grey ghost," since she can be standing 6 feet away from you outside and you won't know she's there.

This is my parents' dog Phoebe! Phoebe is not allowed to have real bones anymore, because she splinters them with her teeth. She has to settle for peanut butter in a chew toy these days, but I think she has adjusted to the change, mostly.

"pioneers striking out from Missouri for the wild and dangerous frontier"

But how did these white US pioneers get to Missouri in the first place? Whom did they bring with them?

Dred Scott was born in Virginia, but he and over 100,000 other enslaved Black Missourians weren't Americans, I guess.

I'm a big fan of the 15 quart, 32 qt, and 27 qt Sterilite Clear View storage tubs. They can be stacked and reconfigured, so they are basically as functional as plastic drawers, but I can leave the stuff in them when moving, rather than having to repack everything. Also great for books!

Every time I see him, the only thing I can think of is Aaron Eckhart as Two-Face in The Dark Knight.

Also, uh, is the "anonymous" pen name used by the eugenicist itself a reference to a French colonial law that incited conflict between Muslim & Jewish Algerians, eventually leading to violence & mass migration?

@blackjew.bsky.social This is actually a photo of the March for Our Lives taken on March 24, 2018 on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC.

I had to buy a new jar opener just for a jar of Talenti, because my other one wasn't big enough, nor terrifyingly industrial enough! The metal teeth on the tool sometimes crack the plastic lids, but there is no other way.

Probably not even in the top two!

Did Logan give you a promise ring?
Also, does anyone remember the IllumaRooms? The toyline for 10 year olds that was just groovy mod dollhouse furniture dioramas with no dolls and no houses? (and also I bought that blue dollhouse bed on eBay)

They have less direct control over the Smithsonian than they do over the National Park Service, so the order focuses more on withholding federal funding from OMB to force changes at the Smithsonian Institution.
March 28, 2025 at 3:49 AM
I didn't mean to imply that it isn't intended to affect the Smithsonian. I meant, in addition, the order takes time to give directives to the Secretary of the Interior to change every park, monument, and memorial on federally owned land, which means everything managed by the National Park Service.

Some people are long past the point of no return. These are two tweets that may seem innocuous at first, but they were posted on the day of the Uvalde shooting, for attention? I guess?

If you're curious, my mom also does promotion for you!

Well... no... but have you ever seen the movie (musical) Sarafina? Did you know they indefinitely detained high school kids for months for protesting legally mandated changes to curriculum? Would you like Whoopi Goldberg to explain it to you in song?

I think that kinda is the vibe of the original 1931 version!

I guess this is my fault for looking for a holiday themed shower curtain in the first place.

I don't know if you can see in the photo, but for some reason this house (which may actually be a real estate company?) put out a field-ful of gourds and there were 4-5 visible squirrels outright frolicking when I walked by.

Of course she's 51, how else would she have been married to the guy from Stranger Things in Revolutionary Road 16 years ago? And am I the only one who remembers her on Crossing Jordan, the medical examiner show for the new millennium?!
