I'm always captivated by the delightfully named Peacock Fly, Callopistromyia annulipes (Macquart, 1855) [family Ulidiidae]—this one was strutting on a log while waving its wings #FlyFriday #Diptera

Blood Bee (Sphecodes sp) on Scentless Mayweed
Not fully identifiable from this picture (iPhone), but a male of one of the larger species, so maybe either Dark-winged or Box-headed Blood Bee

Last night’s visitor - a Clancy’s Rustic, less blurry in real life. First seen in the UK in 2002 and spreading rapidly, but mostly found by trapping - so good to encounter a free one.

Metallic Furrow Bee and his shadow. A colony of these living in a crack in our wall - making up for the general lack of garden bees this summer.

Unidentified for a while, but found a dead one in a spiderweb and had a look under a microscope: Smeathman’s Furrow Bee
