Literally every fear I had working there under the first Trump admin is a reality now. No LIHEAP, no SNAP. Was I honestly asleep from 2020 to 2024? Was I really so complacent for 4 years I thought it was all better?

I know I’m a freaking nerd and this is my life’s work- I really need everyone to understand how much public utility policy impacts everyone and how you as an individual can get involved and try to change it. These utilities are here to serve YOU and rely on your usage. Don’t forget you have power!

For folks with medical needs like insulin, oxygen, etc losing power can be a damn death sentence. And if you live in some types of subsidized housing, a utility shutoff can lead to eviction.

A shut off from your power or water utility isn’t just about the lights going out. It’s so basic, but I don’t think people really understand how you cannot live a normal life without running water and electricity.

The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) has not been allocated. Most states open their applications for winter heating assistance in October, but that isn’t happening because they haven’t received any funding.

Have loved taking the bus everywhere though!
