Last week, I indulged in the best deal in entertainment: $12 for all in-print minicomics from Matt Feazell's NOT AVAILABLE COMICS. It's a big stack, some stretching back to right before I was born. Eternally charming, and a MASSIVE influence on me since 1994.

Originally, Missy Elliott's 'The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)' included the line "TOOT TOOT/Who's got the keys to me boot? *BOI-OI-OING sound effect*" in a Dick Van Dyke Cockney accent. How would the world have been different had that not drifted to the cutting room floor?

Discussing my all-time life changer gigs w/a coworker. Fred Thomas solo has changed my life at least 30 times (probably will again tonight!) so I couldn't pick one, couldn't settle on a single Quintron show, and somehow forgot Battle Trance and Dilloway, but this feels accurate enough off the dome

I'm certain I'm not the first to make a button of this, but proud to carry on the tradition, anyway.

Great record [Paul Rudd as John Lennon voice]. Received as a bonus for helping with some business at Kranky HQ last month. Highly recommended!

The greyest day is still happy when you're buying dinner for your partner at the best Ethiopian restaurant in Michigan, even if it's in a strip mall with a very inscrutable design motif.

I'm DJing at Sam Hill in Ann Arbor again this Sunday afternoon! Chill vibe, picnic tables, families, booze, and I'll be casting an exceptionally wide sonic net (guaranteed the only DJ in town working Folk Implosion, Charles Kynard, Joe Moks, and Bobbie Gentry into the same set).

Tonight at Wyrd Byrd in Ypsilanti! James Victor Yeary is recovering from COVID and won't be there in person, so instead we're doing a live long-distance collab that should be a pretty exciting experiment.

Participating in two very distinct events next week. I wonder when I'll quit defaulting to this color scheme?

If anyone is wondering: yes, my music thing is named after the early Beck cassette. Since 2010 or so, I've used the name for a soft rock DJ night, an experimental film happening series, and my DJ handle, all before it became a "band name". I just think the two words sound really nice together.

Looking forward to being back in Fargo, ND a week from today! Home of some of the wildest noise shows I've seen outside of metro Detroit. This'll probably be mellower than all that, but it will still be a great time!

People don't give @chrislhayes.bsky.social enough props for being in Huey Lewis & the News only a year after being born

More (and sooner) gig announcements coming shortly, but already made a flier for this one in Portland next month. Hope to see my PDX people out and about!

Learned in my pre-pod research that the elegantly simple album cover's photo was taken by Thomas Weir, who also did the group photo on the back of one of my favorite albums of all time, AOXOMOXOA!

Screening records to come with me to Portland DJ gigs next month. This vibes-forward groover definitely makes the cut! Thanks to @stuporfly.bsky.social (one of three people, including me, whom I know to own a hat with this album title emblazoned on the front) for the tip on this one.

I'm not one of those lame fuddy-duddies who fetishizes being a homebody — I love going out — but I have no complaints about this Friday night situation.

Warming for next month's out-of-town Golden Feelings shows with a LONG set next weekend at Next Chapter Books in Detroit. Due to a scheduling conflict, expect me to wrap up around 1:30 pm. Come browse and be mellowed!

Thinking about making these t-shirts to sell at out of town summer shows, plus probably a Bandcamp pre-order. I can't tell if it's good or not. Thoughts?
