Someone once asked me “how can you stand to live so close to so many people in LA” and I said “my neighbors offer me food every time they barbecue and another neighbor waters my lawn for me when it’s looking thirsty and I like to leave sidewalk chalk out for the kids next door, it’s great actually.”
I have close relatives who live in a rural area, and would go a step further: the physical distance between homes, and the ease with which one can move through their lives with minimal or no contact with other people, absolutely corrupts one’s views on what it means to live in a society with others.

It seems wild to me that for all the war movies there are poignantly dealing with the plight of teenage men being forced into brotherhood forged in battle in wars they had no desire for, there are so few movies about mutiny, celebrating desertion and sabotage.
