All this to say, it feels like a metaphor for how trauma works once you exit a toxic relationship. You think you’ve gotten rid of all the bad feelings and then BAM, you get stabbed with a reminder of how terrible things were.

Naturally he didn’t (booze and narcissism don’t mix). Whenever he broke a glass he’d just freeze because he didn’t want to step on glass in bare feet, so I always had to clean it up. It’d always be late at night and we’d always end up finding more glass with our feet over the following weeks.
