I'm a Canadian astronomer who is always working hard to promote #astronomy education by encouraging people, especially young people, to spend some time looking up. 🔭

I'm also the owner and operator of a small portable planetarium.
Happy 25th Anniversary Skymaps! I always recommend The Evening Sky Map to people who are looking for a sky map because in my opinion, it’s the best FREE sky map that’s available. Best wishes in 2025 and over the next 25 years!

Keep Looking Up! 🔭

I hope you have a nice clear sky on April 8.

If you wait 12 hours, I’m sure your giraffe will be right side up once again. Camelopardalis is a northern circumpolar constellation, just like Cassiopeia, Cepheus, Ursa Major, and Ursa Minor. All of them look upside down at some point, every 24 hours.

The name Camelopardalis comes from an old word that was once used for giraffe because it was once thought that these animals were a cross between a camel and a leopard. 🔭 🧪

If you know anyone who needs some solar eclipse glasses in Calgary, please let them know that I still have many in stock.

However, in 7 days I’m going from YYC to YYZ and so they better not wait until the very last minute.

😎

You could use the Solar Snap app, which is free in the App Store, but you do need a solar filter for the iPhone. I’m selling some here…

…but I’m only shipping them to Canadian addresses.

Also, you need it for "the minutes after it" as well. So that's about 60 minutes before AND 60 minutes after. If you're not in the Path of Totality, you need the glasses for the entire event. 😎

If you live in Canada, I have 3000 solar eclipse glasses in stock and ready for immediate shipment, but only to Canadian addresses. 🇨🇦

Any that I don't sell by April 4, will be coming with me to the north shore of Lake Erie, for all those last-minute buyers.

Perhaps Parks Canada has a Gift Shop in Yoho National Park where they sell plush toys of the Burgess Shale Creatures. If not, maybe you can contact the Gift Shop at the Royal Ontario Museum in #Toronto.

I didn’t realize you purchased Opabinia, I thought you made it and then painted it. The creatures in our show were made by hand, by someone at the museum who was rather talented at doing such things.
February 23, 2024 at 3:35 AM
Oops! You’re right, my bad! It’s been 26 years since I did the “Burgess Shale Black Light Show” and I mixed up the creatures. We had an Opabinia in the show, along with Anomalocaris, Marrella, and Pikaia.
February 23, 2024 at 3:31 AM
That’s a great looking Anomalocaris! It’s even better than the one we used in the “Burgess Shale Black Light Show” at the Royal Tyrrell Museum, back in the late 1990s. Are you going to make Marrella and Pikaia too?

You’re welcome.

Why does the word “for” appear twice in a row in your profile name?
