Paper Mario for Smash
This card does tell us a lot though - there can be multiple fighters/creatures on the field at once. I don’t know if these fighters are all active or some are benched, but this has given us a bit more context on the game.

You need a Mario and Luigi to activate this, and I don’t know if they need to be specifically Mario and Luigi, or if their variants would count (Paper Mario, for example.)

Unsurprisingly, this game from mid 2000’s video game culture includes a tonne of Super Mario cards.

This is the first “Combo Card” we’ve encountered. I’m not sure when these would be played - possibly in the combat phase?

I feel like Bounce should have a bit lower damage to make the choice between the two attacks less obvious. If it was 10 damage but still buffed your attack, the choice between the two moves would be a bit more complicated, but the tiny difference of 10 damage doesn’t make the moves too different.

As for this card itself, seems like it has a pretty straightforward strategy. Use Bounce for as long as you can, until your card is about to die. Then use Pinball Shot one final time to maximize your damage.

This is a Mario card, which means it likely belongs in a Mario deck. The previously discussed Goomba card would be effective against this one.

It also looks like we’ll be encountering cards that can counter events. Bypassing that possibility is this Goomba card’s one saving grace, as a well-timed and unavoidable 20 damage could be infuriating at the wrong time.

This card does teach us a bit about the mechanics of the game though. It looks like event cards can only be played with event actions. I’m not sure if each player only gets one of these a turn, or if there’s any way to increase them, but there are rare exceptions to this rule, like this Goomba card.

I think this is the first card I’m going to call bad. 20 damage to a Mario or Luigi card means it will be useless to any decks that don’t have either of the Mario Bros. in there. And even if they *are*, 20 damage isn’t anything massive.

I find it funny that Wizpig gets a buff against all Kongs when in reality he’s only ever gone up against Diddy Kong. In any case, a bit of a glass cannon card, but 80 damage (100 against a Kong) for 50 recoil means he won’t last long but he’ll go down swinging.

As for this card’s effectiveness - it seems solid! Having a buff to both Mario Bros could definitely come in handy, especially if this is more permanent than an event card.

This card also mentions side decks, which is a mechanic also found in Yu-Gi-Oh. It’ll be interesting to see where this element pops up again.

This is another card where I can’t quite tell what type it falls under. I don’t think it would be an event type, since it seems to be some kind of permanent buff to your side of the field.

Our first “event” card, unless you count the unclassified Tech Trooper. Definitely on the basic side, but it foretells that we’re going to be seeing some Marvel characters coming up.

As for the card itself, it seems solid! You can either attack for 50 HP or spend a turn making sure you can survive a deadly hit, which I imagine could be used in some creative ways.

As a bit of a spoiler, this is one of several Chibi cards, which I think means you could build a Chibi deck with different Chibi characters. I don’t know if there is a massive advantage to this or if it’s just cute.
March 4, 2025 at 9:48 AM
I also assume the “your” in this cards effect is referring to a character you’re using, not the player themself, as I’m still not sure if the player has life points in this game.

Seems simple enough! I’m not sure what “type” of card this is (Instant cards in MTG or Trap cards in Yu-Gi-Oh) so I’m not sure when it would be played.
