A lot of International Style buildings are similar, but I’d agree with Stephen that the zebra buildings have their own style.

Nuclear was so unpopular after Chernobyl and Fukushima that I don’t see how CDU would have stayed in power if they had not phased it out.

Wouldn’t it help to have access to rear windows also? So you’d have egress from stairs, front windows, and rear windows.

I suspect it had more to do with fire department access via balconies and courtyards. Old tenements didn’t really have balconies and the rear yards were hard to access. Did European apartment buildings have wood stairs? That could also be a factor.

Looks like the bottom landing was removed during the 1950’s renovation that put in a dentist’s office at the front of the house.
