Under the heading of “sorely needed good news”, I bought a boat. Am I wrong to want to escape the madness?

Not sure if this has been shared here yet, but this is video of Rumeysa Ozturk's arrest posted by WCVB. It's terrifying.

And now for something totally different... I learnt today that insurance companies are withholding fire insurance on boats with lithium batteries (including LFPs) unless installed and certified by a “qualified professional.” Installing batteries isn’t hard.

I think next year, Ireland should send the Junior Minister for Community Affairs to the White House for St. Patrick’s Day. Forget the crystal bowl of shamrock, we can give a small plastic bag of clover or something.

I am not being rhetorical when I ask “when did it become OK to wage war against civilians?” It used to be the guys in the red uniforms lined up against the guys in blue and shot at each other. Now drones and missiles destroy apartment buildings full of grannies. How is this OK?

The more I think about Mark Zuckerberg’s excuses for complying with Biden administration pressure to remove content, the angrier I get. (It was the media’s fault! Or maybe it was the woke Californians way down the reporting chain. Or was it “feminine energy”?) 1/

I’ve been thinking of sailing, of late. Yes, yes, of course it’s a reaction to world events. But it is better than the alternatives. Probably a great time to quote “Sea Fever”, but I’ll let you have the pleasure of Googling for it and enjoying the entire work. Again.

An essay? An essay?

Mitch McConnell thinks he still lives in a world where MAGAs are reading essays at all—let alone reading them with an eye toward being persuaded to a position the Dear Leader doesn't share?

How mad has the world gotten? It seems very few admit the pass we have actually come to.

What on earth is going on with British Rail? I was researching (for the craic) the cost of a train from Pwllheli in Wales to London. Came in at around £80 one way. £120 or so return. To South Wales was £64. To rent a car, you’d have to go a little distance to Bangor. Train fare? £60!

I wish I could balance my ability to purchase books with my ability to read them. Ideally Amazon would have a system. “Have you finished that other book, yet? Well, have you? No, I didn’t think so…”
