Precisely. "Backlogs are forever" is basically the official definition.

Congrats!

Awesome! We're dreadfully short on sweet inspiring stories these days.

of indie, literally short for Independent Developer, both Hades 2 and Silksong fit the category.
November 20, 2025 at 7:34 PM
I agree with you there, Expedition 33, amazing game, really didn't belong in the indie category. Yes, it's not an AAA game, but it relied on external funding.
I also like to think of indies the same way as you, small, inspired projects. I was just pointing out that, going by the standard definition

aggressive argument, so I'm dropping it here. Peace out.
November 20, 2025 at 7:25 PM
so strongly about it you'd go ballistic over a harmless discussion about what is an indie developer merely because a chatbot (who didn't get the basic facts wrong this, as a quick google search will show you)was brought up. Sorry about that. This was meant to be a nice little videogame talk, not an
November 20, 2025 at 7:25 PM
Note you're just attacking the messenger and going on about how terrible the chatbot can be, probably assuming I disagree (I don't) and ignoring the actual topic of indie developers or showing anything that confirms I or the chatbot got basic facts wrong. Anyways, I legit had no idea you felt
November 20, 2025 at 7:25 PM
You're having an imaginary discussion about something else entirely. I didn't ask the chatbot to explain to me what an indie was because I didn't know, I just replaced 20 links saying the same thing to give you as sources with a chatbot aggregation. And yes, I'm very aware of the model limitations.
November 20, 2025 at 7:25 PM
You can do that, but it'silly. All it does is aggregate from multiple sites. I could show you 20 different sources saying the same thing, or have the chatbot save me time. Now, if you feel so strongly about it that it doesn't matter what the world says because everyone is wrong, that's a choice.
November 20, 2025 at 5:41 PM
As you said, it is a word aggregator. In order to aggregate, it needs to get the words from somewhere, which means those words were written repeatedly. That's it. That was the point. As I said to CTG, anyone can disagree or mock GPT, doesn't change the fact that's the common definition of indie.
November 20, 2025 at 5:31 PM
there's no law with an official definition, but considering chatbots basically "learn" from publicly available information, it's safe to say its definition matches the most commonly accepted definition in the virtual world.
November 20, 2025 at 3:18 PM
You consider low budgets to be the core definition of "indie", but that's typically the consequence of independence, not a criteria. I asked GPT to define "indie developer, here's what it said, specifically listing Super giants and Team Cherry as examples.
You're welcome to disagree of course,
November 20, 2025 at 3:18 PM
So if an indie developer has a breakout hit, they automatically cease to be indie?
November 20, 2025 at 2:25 PM
There's no contradiction between them. Team size is very much part of the Indie identity. It's also self-evident that the same core development team won't do everything else that goes in a game, such as marketing, music, localization, testing, etc, all by itself. One doesn't cancel the other.
November 20, 2025 at 12:54 PM
Oh yeah, one of the many things I'd forgotten was that explanation, it's fantastic, puts it in a whole new light. But man, surely they could have phrased it in a way that didn't provoke an immediate "WTF" reaction in whoever heard it the first time? Imagine growing up hearing that as a kid and teen😂
November 20, 2025 at 3:06 AM
It looked cool in small doses, but I played it exactly once in the tutorial and never again, which was weird that the game would introduce something like that only to solemnly ignore it the entire game. Not sure why, maybe because I was careful with my notoriety, but it just didn't trigger.
November 20, 2025 at 3:03 AM
Hades and silksong ARE indie games. An "indie" developer means a small, independent developer not owned or funded by a corporation. Supergiants has just 25 employees. Team Cherry is a team of 3! It just so happens they made hugely successful games, but there's no sales threshold for being indie.
November 20, 2025 at 2:57 AM
Wait, that's a thing that exists? How does it work?
November 20, 2025 at 2:02 AM
Another character like Ezio over multiple games. And by multiple, I mean 2. They've already stated they won't make another trilogy, which makes sense considering Revelations is clearly filler. Very good filler, but it would work just as well as a side story. 2 games seem to be the magic number.
November 20, 2025 at 1:01 AM
The character models in particular are the most dramatic improvement. The Ezio remaster is very good at, well, remastering, which also means the ugliness of 2's ancient models is even more pronounced. Revelations's models are so much better, they could pass for a new-ish low budget game.
