No, this is not a good argument for nuclear power. In a system with lots of variable supply and demand peaks, the last thing you need is "baseload" supply you can't switch off. What you need is flexibility. As for reliability, no: unplanned loss of a GW nuke is worse than predictable variability.

Don’t lose sight of the fact your rating spiked relatively recently. It’s perfectly natural for it to ebb and flow. You’ll turn things around soon enough.
