#OTD 20 October 1588 died Dame Agnes Saunders, eternally recumbent beside her daughter Dame Elizabeth Brocket(d1612) in St Etheldreda's, Hatfield. Another daughter, Mary, raised the memorial: 'she whom I enclosed in my womb...hath encasd me in this tombe.' #Tudors #WomensHistory

This is Edward Hasted's map of the Sevenoaks area, recorded as the 'Hundred of Codsheath' (an ancient division of land). Prominence is given to aristocratic estates, so clearly the cartographer's work is aimed at this more lucrative market.

Recently, I had the pleasure of reading "Lady Anne Bacon: A Woman of Learning at the Tudor Court", courtesy of the University of Hertfordshire Press 📖

Deborah Spring’s "Lady Anne Bacon: A Woman of Learning at the Tudor Court" is a splendid account of the life of Lady Anne Bacon (née Cooke).

Even though many women lived & worked in the printing house of the Plantin-Moretus family, their stories are only mentioned on the side. /1

#Mary1 died 17 November 1558. Read about the conundrum of Protestant Anne Bacon’s role in Mary’s inner circle in ‘Lady Anne Bacon: a woman of learning at the Tudor court’ (UH Press). ‘Superb scholarly detective work’ - Rebecca Fraser. #Tudors #earlymodern #WomensHistory
