I don’t normally participate (or like to admit I'm in the severe category), but for some reason I did this year: here is my entry for @meactnet.bsky.social Severe ME Artists Project 2025, a self-portrait I call “Night and Day”. 1/

🧵 (And for the record, I'm a hippy chick flower child. I shouldn't even know what those things mean. I shouldn't be able to help diagnose other patients with their illnesses. But I can.)

I take sooo many supplements and medications (see photo; it doesn't even show everything!) -

🧵 I really thought I would figure out what was wrong with me (the two diagnoses I’d gotten by then - fibromyalgia and osteo arthritis - didn’t really explain much) and get well*, and then get back to my life. To my career. My students. My art. To my writing and book editing. To my family. Travels.

🧵 Ten years ago today at 3:30pm, I turned in grades for the four college courses I was teaching, and that was that. The last day of my life working a regular job. The first day of my life as a full-time, disabled, chronically ill Sick Person.

Surprisingly, despite the cold and grey, this lovely little moss rose had bloomed.

Moss roses are fascinating - each flower blooms once, and lives for less than a day, and you never know what color it will be. They generally like hot weather, so I definitely wasn't expecting to see one today!

Meet my turtle Jilly!

I'm so excited - I got out my real camera (Nikon D60) and took a few shots, including capturing her today! Isn't her eye spectacular? 

(I plan to write a longer post about playing with my camera again! and taking more shots, but other needs must...)
