A friend included this anti-acknowledgement section on her PhD thesis. She also added the proposition: “Systematic bullying and undermining of girls and women in STEM starts early on and is the reason why they do not stay in science and related fields.”
Absurd we still need to go through this

In this new study (Pubmed: PMID: 39912603), we systematically assessed X-Linked Sideroblastic Anemia (XLSA) in females. The disease is far from being anecdotal in this subpopulation!

In France, we call them femincides. Being killed because you're a woman. But I am not sure if such studies have been conducted to evaluate if young moms are at such a risk. Please read this important paper.

I participated in a faculty panel a few weeks ago in which senior (ahem) faculty gave advice on careers in academia by pretending luck had very little to do with our success. One piece of advice riled me up, in which it was argued that a reason for their success was their ability to say no. 1/

Thanks for sharing this paper! Some things need to be engaged at the systemic level (equal wages, parental leaves, etc), but others have to be addressed as well in our personal space!
I'm loving this idea of microfeminism. About how every day habit the little things can change the world. I'm especially loving the school teacher that calls the dad first. These acts are not insignificant they sometimes matter more. What is your act of micro feminism? www.npr.org/2024/12/04/g...

For a moment, I thought the post was about scientific publications... oh sweet summer child! But it touches a key issue with publishing/reviewing scientific material and paying/not-being-paid for it!
New authors! Things you absolutely do not have to pay for:

-Being published

-Being interviewed on a podcast

-Book reviews

Things you should be paid for:

-Being published

-Your time and expertise

It doesn't matter how new you are. You never need to pay to play 🖤
