There is a reason why most (unfortunately I can’t say all) #meteorologists don’t show extended range ensemble forecasts for a reason. Even if a disclaimer like “this is not a forecast” is given, the forecast is still being shown and could be misinterpreted as such. 😒

12:24 PM EDT, 10/28: Infrared satellite imagery as #HurricaneMelissa skirts the Jamaican shore. The large feeder outer band, and symmetry of the core of the storm, is a classic example of a strong tropical cyclone.

The @nhc-atlc.nws-bot.us position update from 12 PM EDT indicates landfall is imminent for #Jamaica, with safety information that people should be in their safe room. Treasure Beach, Jamaica is currently experiencing extreme winds from #HurricaneMelissa.

8:53 AM EDT, 10/28: #HurricaneMelissa is strengthening right up to landfall over #Jamaica, which will be the latest #Category5 landfall for the #AtlanticBasin. Maximum sustained winds of 175 MPH, and 901 mb central pressure (possibly lower) are also among the top 10 intensities. Godspeed #Jamaica.

10:11 PM EDT, 10/27: #HurricaneMelissa is a textbook tropical cyclone tonight, with a circular appearance, clear eye, and outward emanating gravity waves from the center. This storm has leveled off in intensity so far based upon the last reported recon data, though another plane is investigating.
