You all misunderstand, even Haydn is playful and includes musical "jokes" but is serious music unlike that other stuff

Isn't the reason pipe organs were allowed into Western liturgy because they mimicked the human voice?

He implied nomadic/hunter gatherer cultures don't produce fine arts, so yeah

I forgot the other part from way earlier, he defines (for the non technical audience I'm sure) that "natural law" is what any sane reasonable person anywhere and at anytime will "discover" or "hold" without "indoctrination"

He was saying this when trying to say how "crazy" the modern world is now

"Pistoian rationalists" as a slur for the liturgical reformers

I don't know the history very well, but he cites the cassock as quintessentially Catholic whereas the "clerical suit" is "Protestant" and from what the internet tells me is that the cassock is originally Anglican or something...

There's absolutely that and while he probably doesn't harbour intentionally racist views towards POC anytime people rail on jazz, rock and/or roll, and rap/hip hop you can't help but notice it's "black music" (but he also singles out metal as aggressive "angry" music that stirs the passions)

no, I mean you can skip to the parts that interest you but a good amount of it is about something I do tend to agree with and that is how addictive and harmful our smartphones are (and the attention economy in general) to our mental and spiritual health

but then he says jazz is unserious...

I do think this is part of it but I guess to his credit he also thinks the Romantics aren’t great because of how sensual the music is (cited Wagner and how his music and philosophy of race and such went together)

Share with your favourite music nerd to make them explode

(He doesn’t deny jazz musicians have talent, but claims it’s not “intellectual“ and compares it to finger painting)

The crazy guy on X definitly went further and further back than Kwas who described the modern era from William of Occam who did a nominally as a “slow descent into insanity“. Par for the course for Kwas that modern philosophy, even if wrong, clearly has nothing of value to engage with for him

surprisingly, an hour in, because they’ve mostly been talking about distraction and such it’s mostly reasonable
Weird moment within the first 15 min where Kwas implies nomadic cultures don’t have practical or especially fine arts

The Good News is that now instead of labouring under the Law and not *really* going to heaven now you can labour under the New Law (just as strict and difficult) and if you are perfect you can go to *real* heaven

This is why anyone converting to Catholicism or orthodoxy gets a side eye until I see a Dorthy Day or Mother Maria of Parish (or similar) book/icon/sticker amongst their religious items.
