2. We have a whole section on this in Chapter 14 of our online course thebullshitmachines.com.

The bottom line: an apology is a speech act, and a machine does not meet the felicity conditions (preparatory conditions and sincerity conditions, in particular) for the utterance to perform as intended.

Respectfully, even if they were generated without those requests, would they be meaningful in any sense? Wouldn‘t they just be an algorithm’s probabilistic shot at what order words would go in?

Parker's piece nails why this matters. "Tech companies... would rather not answer for their products’ failures. Every headline that says “Grok apologizes” or “Grok admits” or “Grok says” creates a world where the chatbot takes the fall while Musk and his executives face no scrutiny whatsoever."

Another New Year's Eve drop that deserves to be pushed next week. This is a major climb-down by the administration on one of their highest-profile policies & highlights courts constraining the executive.

Legit major news that should be publicized when people are actually watching.

Measles is really scary. It has an R0 of at least 12 (and could be *much* higher), meaning 1 person infects 12 others on average. COVID19 has an R0 of ~6, for comparison. That's why measles needs such a high vaccination rate (>95%) to keep it down. Any anti-vax BS can easily drop it below this line.
