Came in one day to see my 5 gal carboy of autoclaved media, and a big mold colony floating on the surface. It was using the BPB as a carbon source (media was no longer blue).

My undergrad research project (40!yrs ago) was with Thiobacillus. My medium had salt, sodium thiosulfate, a little ammonium chloride as an N source, and bromophenol blue as a pH indicator for chemostat growth.
