We find archaeological evidence of the expulsions in the City of London: pits of ceramics from c. 1290 from behind houses around the Guildhall area, and the abandoned mikveh on Milk St. The Old Jewry street name is perhaps the only hint of this terrible history today.

![Dear colleagues,
Some concerning news has been circulating this week in relation to the 2025 European Association of Archaeologists (EAA) Annual Meeting (Belgrade Virtual). We, the IAI Board, believe it is important to acknowledge and share this information with our Membership. This is especially pressing as EAA Election ballots close on Friday (5 September 2025), and the Annual Meeting will be concluded on Saturday (6 September 2025).
Numerous scholars from a variety of Israeli institutions are attending EAA's Annual Meeting, including scholars from the Israel Antiquities Authority and Hebrew University; Hebrew University is partially built on Palestinian land in occupied East Jerusalem in violation of international law and in breach of legal requirements as set out by the ICJ ruling. Organisations such as the Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions (BDS) movement 11-which IAI Members have voted to participate in as an organisation-and Archaeologists Against Apartheid (AAA), (21 had called for the EAA to take action.
Initially, the EAA Executive Board voted to exclude Israeli institutions from participating in light of the ongoing genocide in Gaza. This meant that attendants were refused participation under affiliation with an Israeli institution; a similar EAA policy was put in place for Russia in 2022. However, following this, it appears that a campaign of intimidation targeting the EAA Executive Board members resulted in a revote, and reversal of this decision. [3]
Furthermore, many of the Calls to Action shared online came to the attention of the EAA Executive Board who emailed the Annual Meeting's volunteers with advice to mute and remove anyone who chose to speak up [4] though this has apparently been retracted.[5]
The IAI Board acknowledges the gross nature of these events and condemns to the highest degree the intimidation and bullying used to reverse the EAA's initial decision, as well as the president's decision to allow a revote. So disappointing that people who have worked on papers are being forced to withdraw from #EAA2025 but as Guille says there are several important reasons why. Particularly ironic for this session but as usual some in our discipline just provide more evidence of their bigotry and complacency.
Considering the events in the last couple of days, I have decided to not participate with my talk at EAA today. I am deeply sorry as the session was fascinating, and I was excited. I just don't feel able to discuss the impact of Capitalism in Archaeology's disciplinary culture, which was the topic

So.. either the EAA President knew & agreed to this statement/email going out without board approval (so breach of constitution?) Or didnt know & has lost control of the organisation/brought it in to disrepute? Surely either way she should resign? Can members bring a vote of no confidence?
I’ve seen evidence to suggest that members of the Executive Board of EAA have resigned in protest at the email instructions being circulated without approval. What a mess the organization is in and notable the type of foul genocide apologists they are attracting to their defense.
