I have had to do this exact same thing, triggered in my case by a student submitting a paper with a different email address than the system had for me--which created a new account, which then led to the same nonsense you describe.
The why is: because they don't work for us, we work for them...

It just got more RTD in ways I didn't know things could get more RTD-y. Like, "I've always veered more toward handwaves than actual plot, but, get this, WHAT IF IT WERE ALL HANDWAVE!"

As someone who was optimistic to begin with about RTD2... I entirely agree!

I'll add one thing: there was a preregistered comparison, and quite rightly they acknowledge and emphasize it. It didn't show a difference, only exploratory tests did. So... Yeah. Enhancing exposure: seems like the best way forward, turns out to be super difficult.
