Opinion-based government has to come to an end, and soon. It is not only obsolete, but is rapidly proving to be far too corruptible and destructive at a mind-boggling scale. We need to create new paradigms. #politics #leadership #government

Why have we come to accept that debating opinions - whether healthy or otherwise - has any role in leadership and governance? #auspol #politics #government

Remarkably tone-deaf to the demonstrated sentiments of those that voted for you @albomp.bsky.social

You can - and maybe even should - do this, but you need to apply the same standards to all of our guests.

Never before has humanity spawned such a crop of uniformly cowardly leaders at every level of government, in every country.

The spineless capitulation. The sheer cowardice. The needless complicity.

It's astonishing.

Why not just get a plane, put food on it, fly it to Palestine and give them food?

Don't say you can't, of course you can. It's not a political question, but a straightforward ethical one.

If you can't, then tell me why.

Well done Australia! Lots of work to do, but this is a start in the right direction.

Starts with how the concept of history being "faster" now affects the lifetime any "Trump Regime" #uspol in the worst case scenario of their current takeover being entirely successful. Ends with an answer to what #auspol should be doing about it *now* to prepare.

Starts with what the US Congress can do to intervene, and ends with an exploration of what could be the end-game for Musk/DOGE in particular. It's final answer is frankly terrifying. Do remember though, it's just a machine and this is its "opinion". #uspol #auspol

ChatGPT is a useful tool to help quickly analyse and understand complex questions about current #uspol events and how it might affect #auspol.

I'll post up a couple of links to shared chats that I have created in the last couple of days which help to fully digest the scope of what is underway.

Going even further, if I were PM right now I would do whatever I could to attract and accommodate the incredible pool of scientific, economic, engineering, intelligence and other talent that the US is so foolishly letting go of. It would be a win-win for everyone. #uspol #auspol

The best investment the Australian government could possibly make *right now* would be to step in with an Australian version of USAID and take over as many of their projects as possible. Form an alliance with NZ + Canada if necessary to make things stretch far enough. #auspol

The most frustrating thing about the rise of crazed leaders and their followers is that we as a species actually have a lot of work to do this century. By the time we get these morons back to some semblance of sanity, our reserves of time and resources will be even lower to get actual work done.

In Australia, it is imperative that we hold firm to the light of democracy - even, and especially - when it becomes uncomfortable and unpopular to do so.

This may seem abstract right now, but it will become very concrete within the next few months and during the next federal election.

The best government for most countries, and especially any country whose military has access to weapons of mass destruction, is one whose change processes require relatively incremental changes, with larger changes requiring more overt and explicit consensus of the entire population.
January 8, 2025 at 4:39 AM
While it might be frustrating for citizens to interact with a bloated government, and understandable for people to want rapid change and vote accordingly... in a country as powerful as the USA, too-small government without guardrails is an extinction-level threat to itself and the world as a whole.
January 8, 2025 at 4:36 AM
This finds ultimate expression in major countries - which by definition have no external guardrails.

It is critical to humanity's future safety that the largest countries - USA most of all as it is the most powerful - remain democratic and with a complex and at times ponderous system of balances.
January 8, 2025 at 4:32 AM
However, the larger a business (or any organization) gets, the more immune it becomes to external guardrails and containment of the worst ideas of those in control of it.

So it becomes more important that larger organizations find ways to create internal guardrails - aka become more democratic.
January 8, 2025 at 4:29 AM
As a long-time small business owner myself, and a consultant to many other small businesses, it is accurate to say that businesses as a rule are nano-dictatorships.

And that's entirely acceptable, because they are very small entities and have external guardrails against becoming destructive forces
