Irish rugby touring side beats a Chilean select XV 30-0 at the Stade Français club in Santiago on Saturday 9th August 1952. Always interesting to see these often forgotten sporting encounters and tours #Chilerugby #irelandrugby #rugbyhistory

Proper rugby conditions. June 1952, at the Grange School pitch in Santiago as the 2nd teams of the Country Club and Universidad de Chile battle it out in the mud. Score es 3-0! Great game

Are any researchers on women in football in England aware of this story of Jean Tizard prevented from gaining a referee certificate in Durham in April 1952? Reported in Chilean press in La Nación, 10th April 1952. #womensfootball #womanreferee

There is a lot of attention paid to the Chilean club Palestino and what they represent. Lesser known is that there was a football team called Israelita Maccabi who played in the Ascenso. Here is a match report of a rather inauspicious thrashing vs Maestranza Central, January 14 1952

First game of the season, Sheffield Steelers vs Guildford Flames! Got the currently unbeaten #57 Nevalainen shirt on! Excited but also with one eye on the cricket and needing a Hampshire win

Boom! Finally! I was wondering if I would ever see an article like this. Nothing in 1949 and 1950, but finally in December 1951 photos and an article on women’s football in Chile

Basketball player or beauty queen? Natacha Méndez takes the ceremonial kick off before Unión Española beat Colo Colo 4-0. Described as a beauty queen here, she won the South American basketball championship for Chile. I feel there is an article to be written on her (adds to list) (30th October 1950)

A lot going on in this cartoon prior to Chile vs USA. An English fan ‘If you beat Chile we’ll help you in Korea’; a black Brazilian fan “come on the Chileans, if you win we’ll send you coffee.
