I thought I had done teaching Maths to Govt when the Tories left

Clearly not

If Drs lost 25% of income they would need a 33% increase to bring it back, PLUS inflation

Pay increase is 13% AFTER INFLATION taken into account the deficit still 20.3%

GPs just need to work harder & stop ‘coasting’

1.5million a day, 20% more for 20% less funding

This is a plea to
@rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social to fund core General Practice

The average GP practice has lost the equivalent of 2 GPs, a nurse & admin in funding over the last 8 years (20% cuts)

It’s good there are negotiations but patients want & need to see GPs

Funding needed! #TeamGP

Being unwell is hugely challenging, it’s hard enough without the Govt making it harder

7% fewer GPs with 20% less funding (£/patient) to provide care
Closing local pharmacies & big chains leaving (Lloyds)
111 directs you back somewhere else
Hospitals blocked & fewer beds
Ask MPs for better

2019 there was a political consensus that more GPs were needed
The Conservatives were bold & promised 6000 more

Labour campaigned in 2024 to ‘Bring back the Family Doctor’

This looks like a similar empty promise as not enough is being done to retain & recruit GPs

These stats are frankly bonkers. If anybody is complaining about why they are waiting to see a GP. They need to ask why successive governments have not supported the same growth in GP numbers as it has hospital medic numbers.

Agree @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social or just going to sit & watch the end

Legislators for Hire

Between 2010 and 2024 UK MPs spent a total of 50,000 hours on second job, made millions.

Missing from parliament, constituent/public interests neglected for personal enrichment .

MPs must act exclusively as MPs, that means no second jobs.

MP’s second jobs are institutionalised bribery. They should be banned.

Winter crisis - GPs are not to blame

By providing 20% more appts with 20% less funding than 2016
1/7 of population waiting for hospital treatments or investigations they are overwhelmed
GPs have 2300 patients up 500
Funding not matching demand & some GPs unemployed

A good question from @thedauk.bsky.social

Why do we have a desperate shortage of GP’s when there are 3,500 under and unemployed GP’s? It makes no sense

Labour haven’t got more GPs

The summer plan was for 1000 GPs via ARRS scheme so far just 65 have been recruited in the latest figures

This is because it’s restricted funding & not given to practices to recruit directly

GPs are unemployed due to no funding

(There were 73 PCN GPs prior to June)
Susanna Reid, "Don't you need more staff? More GPs? You're opening new hubs, where are the staff?"

Health Minister Karin Smyth, "We've already in the summer made sure there are more GPs"

We have 2,000 fewer GPs than in 2015, and since then our population has increased by 5.3%

Context is key to understanding the pressures in the NHS

111 have 69200 calls a day
A&E 72000 attendances
Ambulance incidents 25000

GP practices have 1.4million consultations & several million more calls

GP practices deal with 90% of demand & 20% more than 2019

GPs are often blamed for the problems of the NHS

Reality is somewhat different, since 2019 GPs have been providing 5million MORE appts per month (31million) with 20% less £/patient

For context
A&E has 2.2m attendances ⬆️200k
Out-Patients 8.7m
Ambulance calls 750k (no change)

Another reminder:

Respiratory infections spread mainly through the air. That’s why they affect the lungs.

Masks, worn correctly and consistently, reduce the spread of respiratory infections.

Respirators work better than masks.

Washing hands isn’t wrong, but it won’t stop airborne transmission.
