Gorgeous to wander Sydney’s Chinatown on a balmy 28-degree night. No cars, just multiple generations ambling happily in search of food and conversation. When I arrived 35 years ago, this part of town was a stinky, gritty dive. Now it’s sophisticated, with gentle spaces under the high rises.

How not to look after a 180-year-old building that was also Australia’s first psych clinic for war veterans. Also, free Palestine.

Grievers, the best thing you can do for yourself is to get a dog. I got a whippet, and she is the most awesome beast you could possibly imagine. Also she is 39° which is much hotter than an actual human and makes for ultimate bed warming, She is also super cute.

Premier of Tasmania provides training shovels to the 8-year-olds whose educational futures he’s destroying by insisting on bankrupting the state with a stadium. He won’t even be able to give them metal shovels for their future jobs as labourers.

I thought Jacinta Nampinjinpa Price had been quiet and then I hear she thinks supporting programs for First Nations mum to breastfeed is woke, and wants to Make Australia Great Again. Remember she’s friendly with Rinehart … as is Dutton.

I'm in far western Victoria, at Port Fairy, marvelling at the blue Bass Strait on a very hot day. It's absolutely lovely here. Festival is pretty Anglo-Celtic, though did see a fabulous Kenyan band. Watching folks drape themselves with capes of bull kelp wrack on the windswept white beaches.

As wonderful as it would be if tourists wanted to weed while they travel, I suspect this headline should be “wedding tourism”? @abcnewsbot.bsky.social

Lovely rain after a hot patch. The whippet is back to burrowing into beds, laps, armpits, any random soft thing. Behold!

So missed, my darling Neill. Three years ago just now, at 11am, 28 December.

Let’s all buy tix to Steph Broadbridge’s completely legal parody musical “Breaking: The Musical”, even if we can’t go.

A shout out to all the dogs of Australian summer, who have to put up with hot days followed by thunderstorms. This is my beloved whippet, Kora, my griefhound.

I had a *terrible* time kayaking on Lake Wakapitu today. This was after devouring a divine whitebait fritter buttie.

Good morning and especially to my new followers! It’s exciting having a new account.

Here I am in Tahuna/Queenstown in Aotearoa/NZ looking through the double glazing at a fresh dusting of snow. Anyone who has ever met me will know my being up and dressed at 7am NZDST/5amADST is uncharacteristic.
