Great post about the nuances of eugenics. Was part of my PhD so I know Austn progressives were very fond of ‘positive eugenics’ to ensure the ‘best’ folks bred more. Horrid eugenic policies like forced institutionalisation were also a thing, but not all horrid policies were eugenics!
Historian of eugenics here. I don't normally like to retweet bad arguments, but this is such a fundamental misunderstanding of eugenics, I think it's important to point out. I don't have time to debunk all of the ways this is inaccurate, but I'll highlight a few things and then recommend some books🧵

Can I put in an order for some new political parties? These two are broken. #politas #auspol
My opinion of them was low anyway but I will never get over Tas Labor lining up to cheer on a Liberal vanity project instead of the teachers and nurses they are supposedly there to represent.

I’m flabbergasted by the rampant evil of those running the so-called civilised world. You know, the ones who are stealing countries, doing criminal deals, flogging cars that burn their drivers alive …

And smaller scale evils, like salmon farms, ill-placed stadiums, destroyed libraries … 😭

#Victorians! Our State Library is being trashed by a series of executives with no experience or understanding of public collections. Many hired as 'temps' without full process, who then caused scandals & exodus of specialist & librarian staff: a full wreck looms. www.theage.com.au/national/vic...
State Library proposes major cuts to staff and services
The library plans halve the number of reference librarians it employs and reduce the number of computers available for public use in a move that has outraged staff.

It really needs to emphasised as strongly as possible:

Do not eat Tasmanian farmed salmon.
Lobster fishery off Bruny Island in TAS closed on eve of the opening of fishing season due to antibiotic use by the salmon farms.
No indication of how long for. Must be a devastating blow for fishermen approaching Xmas.
Crayfish Closure Follows Salmon Antibiotic Deployment - Tasmanian Times
The commercial rock lobster fishery south of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel is now closed effective 15 November 2025

I’m flabbergasted that actual neo Nazis were allowed to assemble outside the NSW Parliament and the cops approved it AND no one thought to raise this with the Commissioner or the Premier.

How many senior cops are neo Nazis?

If an adult child moves out but their former accommodation is filled with detritus have they even moved out at all?

Asking for a friend (me).

I told my adult child I was looking after my skin because I was feeling old and tired and they said, “why don’t you try to get some sleep”.

Rude.

To paraphrase Groucho Marx, who'd want to belong to a club that would accept Responsible Wagering Australia as one of its sponsors?

Watching the Israeli foreign minister on 730 is depressing. Apparently Australia is on the wrong side of history for recognising Palestine and we’re all obsessed.
