I've just received news from friends in the African Hebrew Israelite community that the remaining families who were threatened with deportation from Israel have now all been granted temporary resident status. This status was the first step towards citizenship for the other families since 1990.

Now reading: Jewellers of the Ummah by Ariella Aisha Azoulay. A moving analysis of Algerian Jewish identity after that world ceased to exist. Azoulay sometimes whitewashes the history, intent on creating a utopic past free of any bigotry or trouble, her letters yearn for a lost precolonial world 📚 💕
