They don’t seem to specify a target dates. Unless they’re planning to reach 80% this year, they’ll also be facing the headwind of a big projected increase in the working age population in the next say 6 years. Which means a lot more than 2 million people will need to be found jobs to reach 80% 1/2

3/3 to remove it entirely from tax-paying pensioners which be a high marginal tax rate. Alternatively, subsidise the energy bills of pensioners below the tax threshold (except for those living abroad which is another issue). In any case, i think we need to see a wider range of options explored.

2/3 I estimate that adding the WFA to taxable income would net the government just under £1bn a year recouped through income tax in savings but would be cheap to administer and cause less hardship. Another option which woukd yield more like £4.5 bn a year would be simoly to remove WFA …
