Means-testing the Winter Fuel Allowance by tying it to Pension Credit would save £3 bn a year but cause much hardship amongst the poorest pensioners. But pensioners are not all poor. HMRC estimates that 8.5 million currently earn enough to pay income tax and 10% of these pay the 40% rate. So….1/3

Why aren’t the fallacious arguments of punters calling “Any Answers” challenged by the presenters? Today someone was arguing against means-testing the Winter Fuel Allowance because Nye Bevan said the NHS should be free at the point of use! The WFA has nothing to do with the NHS…
