Not sorry at all to say that we should read the NYT like the Russian dissidents did Pravda, as propaganda, to understand what the Politburo wanted Russians to think. Facts were considered suspect until proven correct.

When we use measures of students' learning and well-being other than test scores, we can have valuable convos about schools and kids. Using standardized testing is a problem not a solution.

If only we had Brazil's tradition of unions allied with social movements, unions that fought for workers' best interests, then maybe we'd have courts that defended democracy.

Telling SCOTUS will do this and pause destruction of the Voting Rights Act. Yes, their decisions have weakened democracy. At the same time this shows SCOTUS and the courts are not immune to political pressure. Demos and dissent influence how they "interpret" the law.

Perhaps what the (sclerotic, undemocratic) unions think their states need. But what workers really need are unions that defend quality, affordable health care for all.

Noting Sanders is little better. On the Tim Dillon show he said having a secure borders is essential and not hard to do. Followed up saying blaming immigrants for problems with the economy isn't accurate, which was ignored by Dillon (and likely the audience.)
