At the post office looking for "forever" stamps. Hadn't seen this commemorative of William Buckley before? Is it new? Looks like a mug shot for a racist lineup of conservative history.

No better way, to me, to start 5786. Organizing to defeat Trump and the Right's authoritarian, imperial project.

The longer @aft.org @uftnyc.bsky.social deal with #tech billionaires to "train" (their term) teachers with #AI develops, the worse it gets.

ICYMI. Another reason we should question advice from Chuck Schumer and @rweingarten.bsky.social about ... anything relating to teaching, education, or politics.

Protests in DC in 2020 after George Floyd's murder suggest a more complex story of how labor is viewed. AFL-CIO headquarters were set on fire. @hamiltonnolan.bsky.social @inthesetimes.com describes it. inthesetimes.com/article/afl-...

Interesting experiment. My reply on the other place with a snarky comment about Trump got lots of attention. Post about how to defeat him? Nuttin'. Outcome reversed here. Getting serious: futureschools.substack.com

Business "leaders" meaning the city's ruling elite name the system - capitalism - but unions won't? That's a problem we can change.

Just wrote pals who are @uftnyc.bsky.social members to vote in our union election for the ARISE slate, on which I'm running. So much is at stake for NYC schools, kids, education workers, especially now. Know anyone who's a UFT member, working or retired? Please relay this info! www.ariseuft.org

When a "seat the table" means your union serves you up as the meal. @AFT and @microsoft.com feasting on working educators, public education, and our students. Read the press release then organize against this, by demanding AFT executive council members halt this, now.

Just received a survey from @aft.org that forced respondents to rank their 4 priorities. Telling us we have to choose what we care about? No option for "all of the above"?

People's assembly too!

.@uftnyc.bsky.social prez Mulgrew looks desperate, defaming his opposition in the upcoming #union #election, using official email to make his case. Now it's specious claims of "intentional disinformation." In the not-so-wonderful-wacky world of the UFT, the prez determines intent, without evidence.

ARISE is a coalition running in the upcoming @UFT election to unseat the machine that has suppressed #union democracy for 60 years. Here's why I'm running on the slate. FB post with other comments is here: www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1...

Missing from @UFT recap of Delegate Assembly "highlights": UFT pres Mulgrew's (illegal) tirade about an opposition slate taking him to court for violations in ballot counting procedures - and mayhem that followed when members (gasp!) talked back. Hope independent media cover it!

#Confidential to @uftnyc.bsky.social: Our #union constitution says our Delegate Assembly represents our 200,000 members. We're obliged to consult with members who've elected us about issues. Sending the(proposed) DA agenda *the day before* we meet keeps us from representing members.

Lots of responsibility to go around, including my union @aftunion.bsky.social . See this tweet between @rweingarten.bsky.social and @chuckschumer.com partners in the libel that anti-zionism = antisemitism.

Maybe @aftunion.bsky.social should reconsider its partnership with @microsoft.com to "empower" teachers to use #AI? Look at how Silicon Valley is supporting Trump?

What @jelaniya.bsky.social is saying: "@columbiauniversity.bsky.social administration won't defend your rights. Don't look to me." Indeed. It's the movement against #genocide in #Palestine, with help from allies who fight for #academicfreedom #freespeech #immigrantrights who will.

From an article on "Making Schools Work" in the recent Harvard magazine, extoling Tom Kane, high profile neolib. My answer? We can't separate them and shouldn't try. #capitalism

Had a convo with a writer trying to make sense of the big picture, the onslaught we are experiencing. My answer: Follow capital, aka the money. Example? Story in @nytimes.com business page yesterday. Shows divisions being resolved, with "spoils."
