Totally agree. Wasn’t suggesting we should wait until an agreed moratorium! We’ve definitely already made big changes at York.
A sector commitment would help reduce competition between unis for exotic field trips for sure, but I do think individual depts can see this is an opportunity to lead. Making the shift has a lead-in time of several years, so these tricky conversations need to be happening now really.

I agree with this completely - we need new metrics for measuring international influence and proper investment into hybrid conferences. BUT we’ve shied away from serious discussions about field trips - student recruitment and finances, we need a sector commitment to low carbon.
