The world is chaos, and in order to process it, I've started an experimental series of essays on art and how it applies to Now. I'm calling it #Apocalypse Art Analysis; it's quite personal but #art analysis is what I do, so it's a mix of deep criticism and my life. Here's the intro; check it out 🖤✨
The World Is Burning; What Now? — Looking to Art for Answers about the Apocalypse (Preface)
[Note from the writer: What follows is the introduction to a series of essays that I am using as a way to process a world where disaster…

Lmao, the govt and boomers working for years to kill tiktok and everyone just moving over to another Chinese app in a day is fucking hilarious. It's gonna take at least a year for politicians to get old people to even understand that red note exists. Pure praxis

after days of grifters and con men at CES we stumbled upon the booth for VLC. they were all dressed as wizards and told us, "we have nothing to sell, we just decided to show up". i told them I'd been using their software to pirate media for 15 years and they said "keep doing that"

Is there ever going to be a day where we can try to recover our minds and hearts from all this, or is it all trauma forever?

If it turns out to be true that lax maintenance on power lines caused the #LA fires, I need to tell people as someone who evacuated from the biggest fire in Texas history in April 2024 (1+ mil acres), this was found to be EXACTLY what caused the Texas #fires. If this is just how it is everywhere...
Power lines, involved in previous California fires, will be under scrutiny again.

Something I'm realizing about the LA fires is that a lot of these people are finding themselves in crisis for the first time. As much as I support mutual aid, watching rich white people get their gofundmes up in the 30k+ range immediately is disturbing if you know what trans mutual aid nets

This land burned last April. California burns always, but it's burning like dragons right now. My friends hide from hurricanes yearly. Tornadoes used to live here, but they mostly moved east (only a few familiar faces show up to the party).

I guess I just have been so anti jock for like 30+ years that even before superheroes were cool I always thought Superman was the most boring, but it still actively blows my mind that people care about Cape Jesus

My brother is digitizing old vhs tapes for my dad, and i just want to point out to all the 20 somethings that idyllicize the 90s and 2000s that this was very much the vibe

I think the biggest lesson gen z should learn from the current world situation is to stop filming yourselves so much. Sure, film sometimes. But you are hurting yourselves by filming so frequently. It's not good for you mentally, for one, and the building fascism absolutely will hurt you over it

A24 and Alex Garland making a propaganda film about white people in the Iraq War in the middle of another Middle East genocide is proof that we should never idolize businesses or rich people, even if they're artists. Absolutely unforgivable.

Yes, actually. I am happy Brian Thompson was killed. And I do think the shooter is a hero. Brian Thompson would have caused the death of multiple people tomorrow and every day after until he died. This shit is easy math.

Tunde from TV on the Radio on Star Wars is the kind of 2024 pop culture thing that makes me wonder if all this since 2020 has been a fever dream. This time in a good way

Never forget when Paul Verhoeven (correctly) decided that Mazzy Star's melancholic classic Fade into You about unreturned love was the perfect soundtrack for two meatheads beating the shit out of each other in Starship Troopers

Two people stood up in an SF movie theater, saluted the Nicole Kidman "We come to this place for magic" pre-film vid and recited it line for line. And were applauded. Beautiful behavior all around, please make this a thing 🥲🎥✨

One of the best things about the Dune universe is that there isn't a single faction in the empire that isn't corrupt to death and capable of horrible things. It's so good at showing this while mimicking real-world politics that many people who still believe there is a good way to empire don't see it
