Also I've rented a new build house that was mouldy/falling apart and I've been told by others living in new builds now that they are not well built. So we'll be destroying our environment to continue building cheap, shoddy houses. We need good quality, affordable (new builds aren't cheap) houses.

As an ecologist, my job is working with developers to ensure they do achieve planning while mitigating environmental impacts and doing what we can to enhance biodiversity.

Yes - I've lived in houses like that. But the solution isn't destroying what little biodiversity/hab we have left. It's working with ecologists/conservationists to create affordable housing that mitigates against evironmental damage. We also have lots of brownfield sites to develop.

On a selfish note, I worry about the industry and whether most of us will lose our careers within the next few years as a result of these changes too. #CIEEM #UKecology

We work WITH developers to help things go ahead smoothly. We know that development is needed and so do what we can to ease the process. We are in a biodiversity crisis with climate change being the greatest threat yet here we are reducing environmental protection. #CIEEM #environment #biodiversity

Interesting to see how the design evolved, so it’s not quite a homage to Earthsea but was inspired by my love of those books and all dragons in general.

The original design had the tail wrapped around my arm but after discussing this with an artist I was told that this works poorly in practice because arms aren’t perfect cylinders and the tail would need to extremely long; thus looking out of proportion for the size of the body I wanted.

I had wanted a tattoo for yrs but could never decide what I liked enough to have permanently. This year when thinking about the Wizard of Earthsea I remembered a description of wearing a harreki round the wrist like a bracelet. This description of a dragon curled round someone’s arm inspired me.

It was a hard choice between How to Train Your Dragon or Kung Fu Panda 2 and between Arthur Christmas and Wallace and Gromit Curse of the Wererabbit!
