Woke up to record snowfall here in New Orleans. Locals baffled. TV showing them how to use ice scrapers!

A few shots of the crib as it gets packed away for the next 11 months. We have some travel planned so we may need more space next year.

Happy New Year to all of you. Except Reform supporters and other fascists. I hope you have the bloody awful sort of year you wish on the vulnerable

In my office bureau sit these two items. One is Capital. The other is my Siemens Six Sigma Green Belt award. Six Sigma is about defect tracking and elimination. I enjoyed the fact that they had spelt my name incorrectly. They offered to take it back but I thought that sort of defect was priceless.

Am arguably mad. Went to David Wilson Library yesterday to read some drafting advice for a book on consequential loss. Place was deserted. Sensible people abed or apub.

I enjoyed King Brian today. After a decent meal I sometimes need to sleep. It's a result of a successful treatment of oesophageal cancer. Today my need to sleep coincided with the droning of his maj. I slept well. Thanks your dreariness.

My turkey looked good! Am getting the hang of it

My tomato consomme seems to be clear. This is good news.
December 25, 2024 at 11:39 AM
Tomato consomme night. Easy recipe. Buy several bowls of tomatoes at the market. Buy a German fruit boiler thingie. Chop toms roughly. Add a wee bit rosemary. A wee bit garlic also salt and pepper. Steam for hours. Decant. Overnight top half clarifies. It's wonderful. Christmas dinner here we come

Our crib is up and running. OH has given up the argument about it not being an Ark. Where I asked does the Bible say there were no wombats?

Maybe I made the cranberry sauce too far in advance

Just what I needed. Goddamned Bert.

I always walk around the block after a serious rain or storm. This time I find a loose lead strip hanging off a window. Nice lady lets me in. Lends me scissors (!) and I make it sort of safe.

Last week we visited the Cradle of Humankind in Maropeng on South Africa. Rather charmingly the message as you enter is 'Welcome Home'

I have a glass of bubbly tonight in the Residence in Johannesburg. I have just received confirmation that I am now an Honorary Professor at the University of Leicester Law School. The pay remains as it was - £0.00!

Right. Tried hippo pic. Tried storks. Limited success. Maybe a warthog will do the trick. From Pilanesberg. Then maybe I get onto some ranting about real stuff.

Say aaahhhh. From Lake Kariba

Another birdie. No idea what it is but it joined us for breakfast at Pilanesberg National Park.

Amandla! Am old enough to remember Thatcher calling Nelson Mandela a terrorist and the Conservative Society at my Uni sporting Hang Nelson Mandela badges.
I saluted him outside 10 Downing St in 1978. Can't believe I managed this in Pretoria today
